What: Front End Developer
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE?
‘There’s always a hodgepodge of stuff to do in our digital team, especially when you’re working on both the back-end and the front-end. As a full-stack developer, I find myself taking up any kind of task. This results in me trying to help the team wherever possibly I can. This includes the development and testing of apps, websites, servers, tools, and more… At SowiesoDigital we’re always applying new tech, which means I’m continuously picking up new frameworks, plugins, etc. Thankfully I enjoy the variation, and this makes it so that every week brings something of interest to the table.’
HOW DO YOU MAKE IT MATTER?
‘During my studies in Software Engineering I felt like I was getting too many theoretical assignments, which made me want to set aside the books in favor of learning on the job. Eventually I arrived at SowiesoDigital, where it became clear to me that the software I build can bring real change and help our clients reach their (digital) goals. This became an additional motivation for me to keep improving in my field.
Besides that, I always try to remain open to new experiences. The social binding of the team plays a big role in this, as I have the desire to also develop myself as a human being. I can do that here because I get to enjoy the fun atmosphere that’s present. Yes, even if they sent me on an obstacle course with almost no training, I’d still say that :).’
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?
‘The ‘stack’ (which is the totality of a program or website) can differ a lot from client to client. This means that I need to be open to tackling graphical tasks (CSS, SASS), functional tasks (JS, PHP), or general administrational tasks (WordPress), all in the same week. There’s updating servers, adding google maps, setting up dev sites. Every week there’s new tasks that come my way, sometimes lengthy projects, other times a quick hotfix. And I’ll do all that while supporting my colleagues, whether that’s taking over their smaller tasks, or testing an app/website.’
