MAKES IT MATTER
Who: Milou Los
What: Event manager
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE?
‘I’m working as an event manager, which is a role that was greatly influenced by the come up of online events. My everyday work changed radically from what it was a year ago. Because the online event branch is rather young, it faces challenges that differ a lot from what we are used to. After all, the advancements of online events only really began a year ago. Before that, there were some platforms but nowhere near the amount there currently is. The biggest difference between an online event and a live event is its preparation. When working on a live event, the most pressure lies on the event itself, whereas at online events this pressure mainly lies in the run-up to the event. Because of the fact you have to guide and take the client along with you, the contact with the client is much more intensive than during a live event.’
HOW DO YOU MAKE IT MATTER?
‘Every day take on new challenges and try to get the best out of me and my environment. An example of this is the remote challenge I recently took part in. That was a week in which I was completely out of my normal routine and exploring possibilities out of my comfort zone. All with the principal goal being a more efficient working method, increased productivity, focus, balance and freedom. It enables me to get the very best out of myself. And that energy I bring along when working on projects and productions. I believe that it is possible to get the best out of yourself and have fun doing your work every single day. Everyone can do that. By demonstrating this I hope I can inspire others, who are also looking to achieve that.’
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?
‘Online events that range from webinars to a 4-day long online festival in a virtual environment. My role in this varies from the beginning of the concept phase to the execution of the production. Sometimes this means only facilitating the online platform, whereas in other instances we start with coming up with an event name, visual identity and I end up as a stage manager during the event itself. And everything in between that. No project, no day and even no hour is the same. And I think that is why working on events might never become boring.’
