Making a credible tesimonial: our tips

This is how you make a credible testimonial: 4 tips

A testimonial is a real story about a person or a specific subject, product, or service. The most important part of a testimonial is its credibility. By having a pure testimonial, you have a wonderful addition to your marketing mix. Testimonial videos show people’s experiences in a credible way. Doing so makes it able to create an impact and to make it matter. That is why we show you 4 tips to create a credible testimonial.

Tip 1: Real and sincere experiences

Whether a testimonial is seen as credible is partly determined by its realness. Often, the viewer notices when something is real or when it isn’t. That’s why it is important to let someone speak that is knowledgeable in that area. And make sure that they can tell story they have lived. After all, the goal of a testimonial is to tell a credible and personal story. Using real emotions and an honest story. That is how you create a truly honest testimonial.

Tip 2: Being well prepared for the testimonials

It might sound a bit contradicting after hearing tip 1, but despite wanting to tell the purest story being well prepared is a must. It is smart to work with a script. But making it more like a sort of work document. This makes it easier to convey an experience, whilst at the same time, the script shows the structure of the rest of the day. Make sure you have a catchy start, an interesting middle part, and a strong ending. In short, a strong story arc. Telling a story can be difficult. That’s why a person that knows how to work with scripts and telling stories can offer you the help you need. Using this co-creation, you can create a targeted video without losing out on sincerity.

Tip 3: A fitting environment

You can design a testimonial in many ways. But does it have to revolve around credibility? Then make sure you film the testimonial in the natural habitat of the storyteller. Like a nurse in a hospital, an officer at a police station, or a supermarket manager between the fruit and vegetables. Choosing a fitting setting contributes to its credibility.

Tip 4: Don’t be too cinematic

An important tip when making testimonials is to make sure you don’t overproduce. Keep it clean. It isn’t necessary to make an extensive film production. This makes it feel like it is not authentic enough. That’s why it is important to ask yourself it is going to be part of a bigger film or a stand-alone project. If it is the latter, you shouldn’t make a fancy film with a lot of effects. This might be visually pleasing, but it doesn’t add to the credibility of the film. Sometimes simplicity is key!
